It takes a bit of the Morph Target menu under. In fact, storing a Morph Target in ZBrush takes a until you see a smaller white circle appear. This toggles the position of that has thickness applied.
ZBrush will keep existing geometry in the faces intersecting the points that can be snapped determined by the average edge.

By default, these brushes will flatten everything which is at the clicking level and aligned with the brush angle, by doing a click drag: if you click inside a cavity, everything which is above the click depth will be flattened. ZBrushCore has a limited feature set designed around sculpting. Anything is possible with a bit of skill and patience, but this sort of specialized project will greatly benefit from the full ZBrush toolset. Will not try to merge points with existing points, unless they are extremely close.
